Equality and non-discrimination in Manzanares El Real (Spain)

The Municipality of Manzanares El Real – located in the Spanish Comunidad de Madrid, next to the Santillana Reservoir – has been the setting of the ENSEMBLE project’s events dedicated to equality and non-discrimination.

At the end of June 2024, Manzanares has celebrated the LGBTIQA+ Pride Week with a parade, concerts, shows, workshops and exhibitions in which the whole community has been involved. Moreover, the town was decorated with rainbow colours, that contributed to the creation of a festive atmosphere.

From September 17^th to September 20^th, 2024, delegations from Italy, Finland and Slovenia met in Manzanares El Real to discuss best practices of inclusivity and to evaluate the results of these initiatives. The activities of the module included a hike through the natural beauty of “La Pedriza”, a visit to the Mendoza’s Castle, a documentary screening and discussion to raise awareness about the situation of the LGBTIQA+ community, thus providing an immersive experience of the local heritage while fostering community discussions on critical social issues.
