Lake Balaton

Keszthely is a town in Western Transdanubia, the centre of the Keszthely district of Zala county, in Hungary. It is the second largest settlement in the Balaton lakeside region and one of its most important cultural, educational and economic centres. It has a lively tourism industry, rich history and culture, and it is a popular holiday resort due to its favourable location and easy accessibility by road.

The municipality hosts various points of interest: Festetics Palace, Balaton Museum, Main square and the Parish Church of Our Lady of Hungarians in Keszthely, the lakeside and its beaches and at least a dozen interesting exhibitions. Three key pilgrim and tourist routes pass through the city: El Camino de Santiago, St Mary’s Way from Mariazell to Csíksomlyó and the so-called Blue Circle which goes all around Hungary. Hiking, caving and climbing in Keszthely Mountains or swimming and sailing in, or running, cycling around the Balaton Lake are just a few of the sporting activities you may enjoy here.
