Leitrim
Lough Allen
County Leitrim is located in the North West of Ireland. Its county town Carrick-on-Shannon (Irish: Cora Droma Rúisc, meaning “the weir of the marshy ridge”) is the smallest main county town in the country, with 4,100 inhabitants. It is situated on a strategic crossing point of the River Shannon, which is one of the most popular inland resorts in Ireland. Carrick is also widely acknowledged as an Anglers paradise and there is more than 40 lakes within a radius of 10 km around the city site.
With its variety of shops, restaurants, cafés, lively music scene and beautiful theatre, there really is a lovely blend of traditional and modern Ireland to be found in Leitrim. A rural haven for families, explorers and slow adventurers who cherish a slower pace of life and spending quality time in the great outdoors.
County Leitrim is located a two-hour drive from Dublin and a mere 45 minutes from Ireland West Airport (Knock).
